Grid-tree composite support structures for lattice parts in selective laser melting

•The novel method of support generation greatly improves the efficiency of adding support for lattice parts.•Support points are grouped during support design to improve support removability.•Our method result in less support volume with a small amount of warping deformation compared with traditional methods.
