•IDEAL-IQ performs superior to T1 FSE in the detection of erosions of sacroiliitis.•IDEAL-IQ can detect fat metaplasia by qualitative and quantitative analysis.•Histogram analysis of IDEAL-IQ can obtain more information of fat metaplasia.•PDFF75th is the most effective parameter for the detection of fat metaplasia.
