Fano Resonance-Based Terahertz Metamaterial Uric Acid Sensor with Asymmetric Design

A Fano resonance metamaterial terahertz sensor for uric acid (UA) detection based on extraordinary transparency effect was proposed and realized by disrupting the periodic structure of the array. Simulations were performed to pursue the origin of its Fano resonance, and the devices were fabricated by wet etching on copper film. A good linear response between the frequency shift of the resonant peak and the concentration of UA was found experimentally. These results ignite a simple way to achieve Fano resonance devices for uric acid sensing, laying foundations for other biosensing applications in the terahertz domain.
