Abstract
In this work, the mechanical and electrochemical behavior of a Ti–Ta–Sn foam is analyzed, since, this combination of elements may be used as biomaterial for medical implants due to its good properties. This foam was characterized by means of X-Ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, moreover, its density, young´s modulus, and corrosion resistant were measured and compared versus 316-L stainless steel, which is a common biomaterial used to fabricate medical implants. The results indicate that Ti–Ta–Sn foam is resistant to electrochemical corrosion due to the formation of a protective film and also behaves with better mechanical properties than 316-L stainless steel.
