•increased femoral version >35° was found in 23% of the patients with hip dysplasia, but 17% had femoral version <10°.•Female patients with hip dysplasia showed higher femoral version and combined version compared to male patients.•Femoral retroversion combined with acetabular retroversion was found in 12% of patients with acetabular retroversion.
