Optical Fingerprint: a Possible Direction to Physical Layer Security, Authentication, Identification, and Monitoring

We introduce the concept of optical fingerprint in optical communications and networks. In the assumption of being able to read devices', sub-systems', and systems' fingerprint, a new model is proposed in order to address services including security, authentication, identification, and monitoring.
