Abstract
The application of DNA as a powerful tool for storing digital information in chemically synthesized molecules has undergone continuous development. To explore its potential and limitations, we model the DNA storage channel as a cascade of a series of parallel and independent DNA noisy synchronization error channels and a shuffling-sampling channel, and derive novel lower and upper capacity bounds through a purely information-theoretic approach. Our results reveal the potential of DNA storage density and can be used to guide the design of error correction codes.
