Range-Angle Coupling Compensation in Frequency Domain Interleaved OFDM MIMO Systems

This paper considers the problem of direction estimation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems. The task involves estimating the direction of departure (DOD) and arrival (DOA) of scatterers under a frequency interleaved MIMO multiplexing enabled by the OFDM waveform. We consider both bistatic and collocated (virtual array) antenna systems and show that the interleaving leads to range-angle coupling which deviates from the conventional array model. We present two methods that compensate the model deviation and quantify the corresponding loss in performance when ignoring this coupling.
