•IGF2BP3 is involved in the occurrence of recurrent spontaneous abortion.•Knockdown of IGF2BP3 promotes macrophages to M1 Mφ type.•Knockdown of IGF2BP3 inhibits the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and activates NF-kB signaling pathway.•M2 Mφ promote trophoblast invasion not IGF2BP3 dependent.
