PI Control of Pressure Inspiration In ICU Ventilator

For patients who need both invasive and noninvasive respiratory support due to mild or severe respiratory failure symptoms, mechanical ventilation is crucial to preserving their quality of life. ICU ventilator is a breathing apparatus that work invasively where it is used by insert a breathing apparatus through the patient's mouth or nose. The pressure control mode, one of the modes available on ICU ventilators, focuses on maintaining the pressure setpoint while breathing. Inspiratory pressure and inspiratory flow are variables that must be adjusted in the ventilator's pressure control mode. This study discusses the design of pressure control in the ICU ventilator inspiratory system. PI control is used to control the inspiratory flow given by system, to reach the setpoint pressure during inspiration, the inspiratory flow must be estimated based on the patient respiratory and compliance parameters. The outcome of PI air flow control modeling was Kp =01.1855, and Ki = 24.68211. Control modeling output was evaluated via simulation-based testing and hardware implementation. The average simulation test results is rise time 0.2 s, settling time 1 s, overshoot 0.6 %, and error steady state 0%, while in hardware implementation the average test result is rise time 0.553685 s, settling time 0.994 s, overshoot 3.58%, and error steady state 1.25%. PI control will be implemented in inspiratory pressure control, the test result obtained are an average inspiratory pressure error 1.003 %, PEEP error 5.05%, 2 cycles of inspiratory pressure achievement cycle, and a stable inspiratory flow cycle is 4.5 cycles.
