Abstract
This chapter presents a review of sliding mode control along with three of its mainstream variations, i.e., higher order sliding mode control, terminal sliding mode control, and super-twisting sliding mode control. Specifically, the governing equations of the control laws have been presented along with MATLAB simulation-based examples. MATLAB code for each example has been included in the appendix so that the reader may reproduce the examples and perform different analysis by changing the parameter values. The dynamics of the system to be controlled have also been included where applicable. Some results from the simulations have been included in graphical form to demonstrate the performance of the controller and the characteristics of the control signal as function of time.
