Abstract
In this study, we developed a programming exercise support system that visualizes the coding status of students and presents it to the teachers with the aim of improving lessons. This system provides a Web-based programming environment for students. In addition, for teachers, whether the student's learning status corresponds to going well, stumbling, giving up, or cheating is determined and presented in real time based on the system operation log. Moreover, the progress of each student, the source code creation process, the occurrence of errors, and how well the student is coping with them are also presented. In order to evaluate the usefulness of this system, we conducted a simulated exercise class using a prototype of the system. As a result, it was confirmed that the system is an effective way for teachers to ascertain the progress and coding status of students. However, it was not possible to identify the location and cause of the student's stumbling in real time. Future issues are the accumulation of log data by use with a large number of people, improvement of the accuracy of determining the coding status, establishment of a method for identifying and presenting the stumbling point, and security measures.
