Comparison of root apex’s position between unilateral and bilateral palatally impacted canines: A pilot study

•We established the root apex’s position of unilateral and bilateral palatally impacted canines.•There was no significant difference between bilateral and unilateral impacted canines.•Palatal canine impaction occurs because of the abnormal position of the canine tooth germ.•The etiology of palatal maxillary canine impaction is closer to genetic theory.
