•Isoeugenol-based compounds 4 and 5 inhibited HT29 cancer cell proliferation.•4 and 5 compounds induced apoptosis.•4 and 5 at IC50 concentrations, suppressed the migration of HT29 cancer cells.•4 and 5 suppressed the mRNA expressions of metastasis-related genes in HT29 cells.
