•Stethoscope diaphragms are contaminated with MDROs, which may be spread between patients.•Cleaning the stethoscope diaphragm with isopropyl alcohol for 60 seconds, is rarely done.•Even when the stethoscope is cleaned for 60 seconds with isopropyl alcohol, MDRO's persist.
