Chronic Treatment with the Probiotics Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium lactis BB12 Attenuates Motor Impairment, Striatal Microglial Activation, and Dopaminergic Loss in Rats with 6-Hydroxydopamine-induced Hemiparkinsonism

•Rats were fed probiotics L rhamnosus GG + B lactis BB12 before inducing hemiparkinson.•Treatment with probiotics LGG + BB12 attenuated motor disturbances in the narrow beam.•Probiotics did not alter forepaw use asymmetry in cylinder, nor APO-induced rotations.•Probiotics treatment reduced dopamine axon loss and Iba1 microglia count in striatum.•The LGG + BB12 probiotic mix has potential to avert dopaminergic neurodegeneration.
