An electrical grid would be stable when the electricity demand and supply are in balance. The power generation should increase in response to increase in load. Demand-side management (DSM) is a way to reduce peak load demand so that adequacy of electricity will be maintained without interruption. Apart from reducing peak load demand, DSM is useful in other applications also, like mitigation of emergencies in the electrical power system, reducing blackouts and increasing reliability of the electrical power system. Due to these benefits, price of electricity reduces, harmful effects on environment also get reduced and also dependence on the conventional fuels reduces. In this paper, National institute of technology (NIT) Patna has been modelled as a micro grid for the reduction of peak/maximum demand through the use of available solar energy and implementation of load shifting based demand side management.
