Abstract
This work analyses the integration of non-dispatchable RES in FlexEnergy Market, developed and demonstrated in OSMOSE project, as well as in currently-available markets, through imbalances reduction. The case study of the run-of-the-river hydropower plant “Ala”, in Italy, allows to provide a quantitative evaluation of the reduction potential and of the associated revenue for the energy producer. Different forecast horizons and machine learning nowcast models are considered, to step-by-step correct the Day-Ahead production estimate. Four use cases are simulated on real data for a period of nine months, showing that the proposed approach allows a reduction of up to 91% of imbalances with respect to Day-Ahead schedule. In particular, the near-real time cross-border operation of FlexEnergy Market would allow a further step beyond the possibilities offered by current Italian energy markets.
