Biosurfactants are amphiphilic molecules that contain water-soluble molecules and water-insoluble substances. This allows their partition at solid/liquid, liquid/liquid, and gas/liquid interfaces and allows them to perform functions such as emulsification, dispersion, detergency, and foaming. Biosurfactants are a precious collection of chemical compounds owing to their eco-friendly and minimal toxicity in nature. They have a broad area of applications in bioremediation, oil industries, pharmaceuticals, nutrition, and its processing sectors. As an extracellular substance, they are being generated by various pathogens. Biosurfactants outperform chemical surfactants in terms of biodegradability, biocompatibility, stability, toxicity, and stability in extreme pH and temperature environments. This property of biosurfactants paves the door for increased demand in biotechnology.
