Abstract
Two field experiments carried out at Sakha Agricultural Research Station Farm, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt, and Agricultural Research Centre during the two growing seasons 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons to evaluate the intercropping of onion, garlic and fenugreek with faba bean crop on broomrape incidence to increase faba bean yield, land usage and economic return in heavy soil infestation of broomrape. Treatments included: faba bean alone (control); faba bean + onion cv. Giza 20; faba bean + garlic cv. Sids 40 and faba bean + fenugreek cv. Giza 2. The experiment was laid out in a RCBD with split arrangements in three replications. Infection treatments were kept in main plots and three crops intercropping with faba bean in subplots. The obtained results showed that number spikes/m(2) and dry weight of spikes (g/m(2)) of broomrap (Orobanche sp) were significantly affected by infection with broomrap (Orobanche sp) and the solid faba bean gave the highest values of plant height, yield and yield components, as seed yield ton/ha, 100 seed weight (g), protein %, number of seeds/plant, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod, pod length (cm) and plant height (cm) were significantly affected by intercropping with onion, garlic and fenugreek decreased infestation by broomrap (Orobanche sp) and increased faba bean yield.
