A Novel Selective Method for the Synthesis of alpha-Bromoacetophenone and alpha,alpha- Dibromoacetophenone Using NaBr/K2S2O8

Bromoacetophenones are important pharmaceutical intermediates in drug synthesis. In this work, through conditional screening, alpha-bromoacetophenone and alpha,alpha-dibromoacetophenone were selectively synthesized using sodium bromide as a bromine source and potassium persulfate as an oxidant. Herein, a novel, green, and selective bromide synthesis reaction was developed.
