Blowing in the Wind ... Exploring Windsports as the Next Generation of Adaptive Sport s and Recreation (Part I: Kiting and Gliding)

New advances in technology are promoting the participation of windsport activities as the newest brand of adaptive adventure sports available to individuals with disabilities. This article is Part I of a two-part series and introduces windsports that facilitate and empower independence through flight in the air including kiting, kiteboarding, hang gliding, and paragliding. Practical adaptations, techniques, personal experiences, equipment, and resources are provided for practitioners and participants. Connecting with nature and the power of the wind has never been so available to individuals with disabilities.
