Convention Analysis

Abstract Convention analysis or the heterodox model of the economy of worth has been advanced primarily in France and is currently being disseminated all around the world. In organizational economics, this perspective puts forth an original way of bridging social and economic dimensions. This perspective revisits how coordination is achieved within and between organizations and explores mundane valuation processes and activities involved in cooperation. Convention analysis also shines the spotlight on conventions and their underlying common values by opening the black box of controversies in pluralistic contexts and by paying attention to the justification processes through which a normative order gains or maintains legitimacy. This chapter reflects on the contributions of convention analysis and its future in the field of organization theories (OTs).
