The utility of inflammatory and endothelial factors in the prognosis of severe dengue

•IgG seropositive dengue patients manifested abnormal laboratory characteristics and severe dengue symptoms more frequently when compared to other seropositive groups.•The markers IL-6, TNFR1, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, Thrombomodulin, and Angiopoietin-2 were markedly elevated in IgG seropositive patients when compared to healthy controls.•Elevation in IL-6 and TNFR1 in IgG seropositive patients was markedly associated with reduction in platelet count and an elevation in Hematocrit levels.•The markers IL-6, TNFR1, Thrombomodulin and Angiopoietin-2 exhibited good potential to discriminate dengue severity.
