•Fe3+ ion was generated by repeating the discharge–charge reaction of FeF2 with EC:DMC electrolyte.•Lithium carbonate was generated as a discharge product in EC:PC electrolyte.•The elution amount of iron with EC:DMC electrolyte was larger than that with EC:PC.
