A comparative analysis between three stage and two stage bidirectional dc-dc converter in battery storage application

The bidirectional DC-DC converters are widely used in battery charging /discharging scheme. The dual active bridge scheme is adopted for the high power applications. The wide voltage variation requirement of battery charging and discharging can be fulfilled with the additional stage along with the dual active bridge. Isolated boost converter can also meet the wide voltage variation requirement. The isolated boost converter may increase the conduction loss and high switching stress. The bidirectional DC-DC converter with additional buck-boost, additional boost and the isolated boost converter with RCD clamp has been simulated with PSIM simulation tool. The control algorithm has been discussed. The 1.5-7.5 kW system has been adopted and simulated with simulation tool. The control algorithm has been discussed for all three control schemes. The proposed converters effectiveness and performance has been verified by simulation results.
