•An improved approach for droplet collision probability prediction was proposed.•Our predictions are substantially independent of grid size and initial parcel number.•Collision dynamics for impinging spray under 10–60 atm were investigated.•We reproduced that droplets tend to bounce as ambient pressures increase.
