Abstract
Beyond 5G networks require ultra-high data-rate, moderate-distance, scalable and cost-effective Xhaul (fronthaul/ mid-haul/backhaul) networks. It is expected that some of the current optical fiber based Xhaul links will be replaced by millimeter-wave based ones if the wireless data throughput performance exceeds 100Gbps over 100m distance. In this paper, we present a sub-THz ($250 \sim 270$ GHz) RF system design and measurement result including channel characteristics for future wireless Xhaul networks. Design issues of terahertz band RF components such as high-gain antenna, power amplifier and ADC data converters are provided. In addition, this paper highlights the demonstration of wireless data transmission performed while moving the unit mounted on the top of the vehicle to a distance of 100m and more from the Road Side Unit.
