Omnidirectional Multi-beam Conformal Antenna Based on Surface Periodic Metallic Structures

The corrugated metallic structure can realize effective propagation of spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) on the metal surface. In this paper, we design a helical conformal periodic metallic SSPPs waveguide based on cylindrical metal surface to realize an omnidirectional multi-beam antenna. The metallic periodic units are utilized as SSPPs along the curved metal surface to couple signal from dual waveguide ports. The omnidirectional multi-beam radiation can be realized by the guided wave and radiation characteristics of SSPPs. According to the simulation results, the proposed antenna works effectively around 9.58 GHz. The radiation pattern shows a uniform omnidirectional multi beam, in which the maximum gain reaches 3.75 dB. This proposed antenna can be mounted on metal cylindrical structure and is easy to fabricate, so it has a good potential in wireless sensing and communication fields.
