•High-order statistics of dynamic train response is used to detect mortar void quickly.•Improving the mortar void detection speed and accuracy in the ballastless track.•A 4th-order cumulant kurtosis difference method is designed to locate voids.•Bispectrum of axle box accelerations is analyzed to recognize the 24 void cases.•Synchronous and quick detection of mortar void location and recognition is realized.
