Differential effects of soil texture and root traits on the spatial variability of soil infiltrability under natural revegetation in the Loess Plateau of China

•Soil infiltrability was differentially regulated by soil texture and plant roots.•The variations in regional soil infiltrability were more explained by soil texture.•Various root-soil combinations differentially affected regional soil infiltrability.•Soil texture had the strongest total effect on soil infiltrability on a reginal scale.
