Abstract

•Single Ru atoms are successfully anchored on the surface of CoV layered double hydroxide (CoVRu LDH).•CoVRu LDH demonstrates a favorable electrocatalytic activity for HER, OER and water splitting.•The origin of the catalytic activity of CoVRu LDH is revealed by experiment combined with DFT calculation.
