Abstract
•An acid/alkali dual pH responsive controlled-release pesticide (HCECA) was fabricated.•The chlorpyrifos release was caused by the dissociation of Ca2+/EDTA2- under acidic conditions.•Disassembly of calcium alginate gel prompted chlorpyrifos release under alkaline conditions.•HCECA showed excellent stability, foliar adhesion, and biosafety.
