Abstract
•Pt-based catalysts are selective for CO production from CO2 and H2 via the RWGS reaction [27-29]. There are two characteristics of supported Pt catalysts that are worth mentioning: (a) Pt favors hydrogen dissociation and (b) the Pt-C bond strength in Pt-CO is lower than that of other noble metals [30-32].•Based on the above described, we hypothesize that the incorporation of Pt to catalysts of Rh supported on metal oxides can improve the formation of COads species (fundamental for the CH4 production), which could enhance the methane production. Hence, in this study the effect of the Pt addition on the catalysis of the CO2 methanation in the presence of ZrO2-supported Rh was investigated. Additionally, the surface species formed under reaction conditions were characterized to determine which of them participate directly in the catalysis.
