Automatic detection system with 3D scanning and robot technology for detecting surface dimension of the track slabs

Track slabs are key components in high-speed railways, and it is crucial to detect the surface dimension deviation of track slabs manufactured as precast concrete. However, the traditional detection methods used to gauge track slabs are time consuming and costly. To overcome these limitations, this paper established a multi-tool-based design workflow for detection of the surface dimension deviation of track slabs. To investigate the feasibility of the proposed workflow, case studies assessed an automatic detection system with 3D scanning and robot technology for detecting track slabs. The experimental results of the case studies demonstrate that the proposed system can detect track slabs efficiently, stably, and accurately, thereby reflecting the potential application of the system in detecting the surface dimension deviation of the track slabs. Moreover, the automatic detection system can be conveniently extended to various industries to control the surface dimension deviations of diverse prefabricated cement components.
