Abstract
•Diisononyl phthalate (DiNP) down-regulated enzymes of the cardiac glycolytic pathway in wistar rats•DiNP caused perturbation of cardiac tricyclic acid cycle enzymes.•DiNP also negatively modulated the enzymes of the cardiac electron transport chain thereby causing a reduction in energy production.•Down-regulation of the enzymes of cardiac cellular energy by DiNP can induce various forms of cardiomyopathies.
