Assessing the impact of data augmentation and a combination of CNNs on leukemia classification

•Deep learning for detecting types of leukemia in blood smear images.•Seven CNNs were applied in five scenarios for different types of leukemia.•Data Augmentation was applied and analyzed to prove the performance improvement.•Multilevel and Ensemble improve the individual CNN’s performance.•Multilevel and Ensemble performances are similar.
