Piezoelectric materials in sensors: Bibliometric and visualization analysis

The piezoelectric materials are of tremendous interest due to their unique features. Mechanical energy can be converted to electricity and vice versa using piezoelectric materials. Due to biological properties, piezoelectric materials have made strides in biomedical device applications in recent years. This work uses a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to examine previous research in piezoelectric materials in sensors (PMiS). The search is done by sifting through the studies in the Scopus database to find peer-reviewed publications. It entails several documents such as journals, conference papers, book chapters, etc. To highlight the state of PMiS publications, the Biblioshiny and VOSviewer software were used to conduct a graphical analysis of the most cited documents. The author, Sodano H. A., has attained a top position and the leading source is the journal “Smart Materials and Structures”. Keyword analysis reveals that “piezoelectric” and “energy harvesting” are the most popular keywords and indicate distinct developmental trends in PMiS. It’s the first-time that the bibliometric research has been used to examine PMiS documents in depth. The findings shed light on the fundamental nature of PMiS hotspots and future directions. The results also aid PMiS researchers in gaining a rapid understanding of the expansion.
