•Structural properties of sol-gel fabricated γ-CoZnF NPs.•DSC analysis for the thermal states γ-irradiated CoZnF NPs.•The microstructure of γ-irradiated CoZnF NPs was studied by AFM and SEM images topography.•Raman active modes haves supported the structural data.•UV–Vis spectra and Tauc’s plot was reported the bandgap 3.51–3.96 eV.
