Interfacial charge transfer states enable efficient solid-state upconversion

While high-efficiency upconversion is widely demonstrated in solu-tion, solid-state upconversion has lagged significantly behind. Recently, Hiramoto et al. reported a novel solid-state upconversion system based on organic semiconductor heterojunctions, leading to more than 10-fold improvement in efficiency.
