Abstract
•The emission characteristics of HRG and diesel were analyzed with different EGR rate and injection pressure strategies.•Compared to diesel, HRG can reduce NOx and soot emissions simultaneously with even lower injection pressures.•A large number of nucleation mode particles were observed with diesel at low EGR rates compared to HRG.
