•Design and Characterization of novel nanocarrier glyco-based block copolymer.•News third-generation photosensitizers were developed for use in photodynamic therapy.•Glyconanoparticles containing the photosensitizer ClAlPc showed photodynamic activity.•Drug release rate of ClAlPc from nanoparticles was described by the biexponential model.
