摘要

•Systems thinking analysis revealed the deleterious effects of chromium in the environment.•Substantial amounts of Cr(VI) have been extracted from water using GRB.•Surface characterization results confirm the potentiality of the GRB towards Cr(VI).•The sorption mechanism of electrostatic attractions and pore-filling are observed.•Developed GRB adsorbed ∼ 90 % of chromate ions from industrial effluents.
