•Interfacial tensions between CO2 and decane-iododecane mixtures are reported at various temperatures, pressures, and compositions.•Mass transfer of CO2 is revealed by the dynamic interfacial tension and oil phase drop volume.•Interfacial tension and miscibility pressure increase with iododecane mass fraction.•Square gradient theory is able to predict the interfacial tensions of the systems in question.•Group-contribution method is extended to enable modelling of interfacial tensions for other systems comprising alkanes, iodoalkanes and CO2 or N2.
