High yield production of 2-methyltetrahydrofuran biofuel with reusable Ni-Co catalysts

•Active and selective bimetallic Ni-Co catalysts allow for high yield 2-MTHF production.•Addition of Ni in small amount to Co catalyst strongly boosts the furanic fuel production.•2-MTHF production is strongly impacted by Ni-Co composition and preparation conditions.•Ni surface availability and acidity are key-factors driving the catalyst performances.•Ni-Co catalysts were reusable over 5 test cycles.
