摘要

•Pristine and Gd:ZnO thin films were obtained by syringe pump spray pyrolysis technique.•Films were examined with XRD, SEM, EDX, XPS, Uv–Visible and FTIR.•Gd-doped ZnO thin films were used for photocatalytic degradation of Congo red under visible light.•Photocatalytic degradation of Congo red under visible light was dependent on Gd concentrations.
