A Study of the High-Temperature Strength of Titanium Alloys Using Nanoindentation and Micro-cantilever Bending Tests

To investigate the microscale plastic behavior of Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6242S, and IMI-834 titanium alloys in high-temperature environment, nanoindentation and micro-cantilever bending tests were performed at 25 °C and 350 °C. The strength of single α-grains of IMI-834 and Ti-6242S at high temperatures is larger than that of Ti-6Al-4V, suggesting that solid-solution strengthening is the mechanism that plays a critical role in high-temperature strengthening, regardless of the microstructure complexity.
