Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal and sympathetic nervous system responses to social evaluative stress in chronic cannabis users and non-users

•The HPA and SNS stress response was examined in healthy, young adult cannabis users and non-users.•Cannabis users exhibited blunted HPA axis responses to acute stress.•In contrast, users exhibited greater SNS recovery to acute psychosocial stress.•Research on the long-term impact of HPA axis dysregulation in users is needed.
