摘要
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is among the most common cancers in the United States (US; Thompson et al., 2016 Thompson A.K. Kelley B.F. Prokop L.J. Murad M.H. Baum C.L. Risk factors for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma recurrence, metastasis, and disease-specific death: a systematic review and meta-analysis. JAMA Dermatol. 2016; 152: 419-428 Crossref PubMed Scopus (300) Google Scholar ). Tumor diameter is an important prognostic factor in cSCC, with a diameter ≥2.0 cm conferring a higher risk of disease-specific death. Although socioeconomic status (SES) has been associated with poor prognosis in various malignancies ( Cheng et al., 2021 Cheng E. Soulos P.R. Irwin M.L. Cespedes Feliciano E.M. Presley C.J. Fuchs C.S. et al. Neighborhood and individual socioeconomic disadvantage and survival among patients with nonmetastatic common cancers. JAMA Netw Open. 2021; 4e2139593 Crossref Scopus (25) Google Scholar ), few US studies have explored SES in relation to cSCC outcomes or specific high-risk cSCC features ( Broadbent et al., 2016 Broadbent T. Bingham B. Mawn L.A. Socioeconomic and ethnic disparities in periocular cutaneous malignancies. Semin Ophthalmol. 2016; 31: 317-324 Crossref PubMed Scopus (2) Google Scholar ). We thus sought to determine whether SES was associated with cSCC diameter at presentation.
