Abstract
The identity of a historical name, Zingiber marginatum is re-investigated here. Since its discovery in 1810, it has been considered as an unresolved name representing a validly published taxonomic entity. With the uncertainty of its location, as mentioned in the protologue, it is difficult to trace it in wild. Yet, Blume and Clarke tried to elucidate the identity of Z. marginatum by correlating it with their respective collections, but, could not provide a concrete solution. In the absence of any extant herbarium material or illustration, the only reliable existing original material supporting the name Z. marginatum is the scant description provided by Roxburgh. Hence, we try to analyze and develop the identity of Z. marginatum .
